Update from chrisy on dm1 response

Hi friends,

I want to share some good news with you! After a short bout of post scanxiety inscanity (caused by a communication breakdown - my NP thought her coworker had called me and so didn't call me herself. Which I of course interpreted as SHE DOESN'T WANT TO CALL ME BECAUSE THE NEWS IS SOOOOOO BAD)...

My PET/CT scan results after my #8 infusion of T-DM1 reads as follows:
bla bla bla bla bla blabla bla bla bla bla blabla bla bla bla bla blabla bla bla bla bla blabla bla bla bla bla blabla bla bla bla bla bla
IMPRESSION:
1. The previously seen lesion within the anterior dome of the liver is less well seen and is now isointense with liver with a maximum SUV value of 3.1.
2. (WAIT FOR IT........)
No evidence of metastatic disease is seen on the current examination.

HOLY S#%T!!!!!!

BTW, the report also noted multiple body areas as "unremarkable", including my brain, so we know it's an accurate scan!

Kidding aside, this drug is a great drug - I had to fight to stay on the study because of high LFT's, and I'm so glad I did!

That is GREAT news!!!! How are the side effects of the treatment?

I thought I was the only one who sometimes interprets no news as bad news when it comes to my doctor "not" calling me - "scanxiety inscanity (caused by a communication breakdown - my NP thought her coworker had called me and so didn't call me herself. Just KNEW you could do it!! Now, let's keep it that way. The next question is HOW long do you stay on this treatment? Those little toxins did the Number on the cancer cells, but if there are "no" cancer cells, what do they do?

Flori, you know I have YOU to thank for the success of the DM1 treatment! Every time I jack into the IV for it, I silently rap to myself in the spirit of RunDMC as you said:

"HIT THAT SH*T DOWN - that how we roll...fo' shizzle wit the dizzle...da bomb gonna blow......."

I am now officially more than halfway through the trial protocol - having just received dose #9 out of 17. So right now the plan is to stay on the winning horse! After that, if you complete the trial as of now you can still receive the drug if it is beneficial to you. Although I'd love to get a day off from the weekly office visits!

I heard last week that Genentech is having discussions on "what to do" with people who complete the trial, so I'm sure there will be more to come on that. Right now, my goal is to get and stay well, continue to work on my liver enzymes, and pray the DM1 keeps working it's magic!

Hi Chrisy,
I was so happy to hear your good news. I will be ending the phase 1 trial in September. I have heard that they will allow you to stay on the drug if it is working. Nevertheless, I agree with you that it would be nice to have a break for a few weeks. Tomorrow I am scheduled for a CT and they will check the inflammation. If it is stable or better I can hold off on the biopsy for now.
