Having my head examined...

Tomorrow is my brain MRI - hopefully it will show a big fat "nothing". Of course once I made the scan appointment my migraines disappeared (and thank god for that one). Yesterday was my triple-drip. Today I am having random bone aches - always after the zometa...but nothing too exciting - level one pain - tylenol. And fatigue for sure. I'm going to see a stupid movie to keep my mind from worry-land. And eat gluten-free pop corn.

Thursday is the scan. Friday is the brain surgeon for results. Monday is the Onc for a check up.

I am a scan-chicken so I will think about my sisters* here while I'm in the scanner. This board is the best medicine for me. xo

Last year when I had just finished my 6 rounds of chemo, before I started Herceptin, I had a 6 day headache. DH took me down to the ER and they did a brain CT scan, showing nothing. The percosets they gave me helped alot.

I'm glad your headaches have stopped. I'll be thinking of you on Friday.

I will be thinking of you tomorrow....I have my double drip, and you the MRI...I just put myself somewhere else, warm, sun, palm trees, sand...like where you have just been....I just have to remember not to wiggle my toes. I hate the MRI the most of any test...so you will be in my thoughts tomorrow...good luck, and hoping all they find is brains in that head of yours!

Everything will be just fine. It seems everything about the head resolves itself as soon as the appointment is made. Go figure how great your hair looks when you go to the salon to get a haircut.

Don't let the scanxiety get you down - the turkeys are supposed to do that!

PS - I have seen Mamma Mia and the Dark Knight. Both are good but Mamma Mia would probably be a better choice. The new Ben Stiller (has "Tropics" in the name) is supposed to be a genius according to my 22 yr old. Very funny

Flori,,,,,,You will be in my thoughts and prayers,,,,,I had an MRI once for my lower back, and I'm laying there sliding up into "the Tube" and then when the man-conveyor stopped, all of the 1960's Star Trek noises began. Whirrrr,whirrr and I'm thinking "that sounds just like my cord-less drill" and then tink-tink-tink "that's like when Yukon Cornelius was tink-hammering for gold" and then when all of the Space Odyssey noises began, I had an epiphany, and realized that this was all a sham, for two reasons. One-this machine didn't have to make all of these odd-ball noises to check out my back, and Two-I shouldn't have to listen to all of this racket while I'm trying to sleep (yes, I did), so once it was over,, I did some in-depth research on my own. What I discovered was a little disturbing. In the late 1970's a down-on-his-luck Dr. Morton Raymond Integer approached a major medical equipment manufacturer with an idea to market and mass produce a conveyor-type x-ray system, but his idea was initially rejected. The marketing VP explained that an X-ray costs 100 dollars and Dr. Integer wanted to charge 2000 dollars for his conveyor x-ray. Dr. Integer stroked his beard and said, "what if I add sound effects, and call it 'MRI' ?" The Marketing VP said, "mister, we gotta deal"

Flori - I am holding you in my heart... and hoping they find an empty melon sitting on top of your shoulders. I love my MRI machine so much that I have given it a name: Horace the Hypnotic Vibratron. OK, I just made that up, but I do love my MRI machine. It gives the best naps I have ever taken!

This might the the first and only time that I disagree with one of my hero's, Becky, about something. I don't recommend Mama Mia~ it was painful... But I can recommend Tropic Thunder. It's silly and very Ben Stiller.

Just a quick movie update since I am too anxious to actually go to bed:

Tonight: Tropic Jungle (or something like that) - the people laughing the most were under 30. Tom Cruise was hilarious. STiller is Stiller funny. More of a guy movie but it did keep my mind out of cancerland.

Already saw the new Woody Allen - Vicky Christina Sophia Barcelona or something like that. It was very enjoyable - lots of laughs. Beautiful shots of Barcelona. Not just a chick flick - for sure guys can enjoy too. At least my guy did. Penelope Cruiz was amazing also with Scarlett Johansson Javiar Bardem - see - someone for everyone. HOT.

Re: mama mia - saw that and really enjoyed it - until Pierce Brosnan opened his mouth to sing. His voice is fine but he is just so awkward. As if he has never sung a song in his whole life. When I saw this and he first started to sing - the whole audience just started laughing. Other than that and having to see his hairy chest it was a very upbeat flick. SOrry if I offended any Pierce fans. They should have cast John Travolta in that role. Maybe in my next life I'll be a casting agent.

RE: Step Brothers - very crude humor - very nasty language - immature - I loved it:).

RE: Frozen River - incredible movie. Heavy duty story of smuggling immigrants from Quebec down through Mohawk Territory in upstate NY over one Christmas and what mothers will do for their kids. Well acted. A serious story - independent movie. But with some laughs too.

I once had an MRI with "Virtual reality glasses" which were like prisms that angles the field of vision 90 degrees so you could see what was going on below your toes without bending your neck. It was for an MRI of my back, I think. Anyway, they had a TV down there and asked what I wanted to watch--I chose a cooking show, I think it was how to make Thai-chicken pizza on PBS and a gardening show!

But I have no reviews to offer!

To paraphrase , Mamma Mia was "painful," but painfully funny...nothing like seeing Pierce in a jumpsuit . 7 of the girls went to see this movie and we enjoyed it. I had NO expectations, so I was not disappointed. Meryl Streep has an amazing voice, and her costars were funny and irreverent. I think experiencing Mamma Mia is a generational thing. Many of us old timers remember the original Abba. The music brings us to a far off vault of memories.

Stepbrothers is defintely enjoyed by the younger generation. It reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite -- appreciated by the under-30 crowd.

That's what I enjoy about movies, or theater for that matter, we all walk away with something different.

I was a tepid Abba fan - they are definitely my generation. I loved 'em on the radio and in the dance clubs, but never bought their records... but I thought the movie would be dialogue with Abba as the soundtrack, and maybe one or two cute little "girl group" performances as part of the nostalgia line of the movie. Imagine my 'pain' to learn that it was a musical, that in my estimation appeared to be painful for most of the actors in it. At least for the first 3/4 of the movie. They were so awkward and I swear I could see regret on their faces for ever signing on to it. By the last 30 min of the movie it seemed that they finally felt like they fit into their own skin again... I wanted to leave after the first 20 minutes, but my friend and I couldn't stop laughing at the absurdity, like a trainwreck we couldn't take our eyes off of. It was a cute story line, I had no problem with that, but it would have been so much better had it been adapted from Broadway as a romantic comedy with dialogue, rather than an all out musical, IMHO. You're right Vi, it was 'painfully funny'....

Flori, Praying that the docs find "nothing," or as my sister inlaw once said when I brother had an MRI about 20 years ago (when they were new): "Well, they found out he has a brain." I'm also a scanner chicken and always take an Ativan first. Also, I took one every night while in the hospital to fall asleep, because I was so anxious. It didn't seem to matter that there was a tv in the room and I could rent movies. Best, Joan
