Hi Ladies, I think my next at bat will be Tykerb with Xeloda. Have been on the Xeloda for about 18 months now; combined with Tykerb is it a rough road? Fondly, Ceesun

Hi,
I didn't have Tykerb with Xeloda (I did with Avastin) and of course, everyone ALWAYS responds individually.
That said, the most common side effects are rash and diarrhea. There is a lot of info from Brenda in Texas on dietary things you can do to ease the second one. Have you looked in the Herceptin/Tykerb forum?
My personal experience was, I took the Tykerb in the am and was on a higher dose in the trial than is typical. I had the big D (I still can't spell it!) about an hour after this - but not every day. Maybe once a week or so. Mine was easily controlled with Immodium.
I also had a rash - sort of like in high school - but not horrible.
I liked the freedom from IV that comes with oral treatments, and I felt better on Tykerb than on Herceptin.
Good luck on the new combo - as you know, this has worked really well for a lot of ladies on the board.

not at all a rough road for me... I have been on the T/X combo for going on a year, and I have no problems at all! Of course, everyone is different.
Good luck!

Hi Ceesun
I was on the combo for a year and did great. I did get the Xeloda dry hands/feet thing pretty badly but since you have been on the Xeloda already you must know if how you will react on that one. The Tykerb did not seem to bother me except for diarrhea at first then controlled with Imodium if needed.
THIS IS A GREAT COMBO and I wish you much luck.
