Question on itchy skin...

I am itchy. Actually - my skin - in random places. I added Avastin on Wednesday. Started feeling itchy on Thursday BUT was also taking Cipro which I started on Tuesday afternoon. I think it was the Cipro even though I've taken it before with no itchy skin side effects. Tried some benedryl - didn't really do much. Thought about claritan since everyone's allergies are going nuts.

Just curious if anyone has had skin itchiness from Avastin or even Tykerb/herceptin which I know has skin weirdness side effects. I do not have a "rash" or anything obvious. And I've already done the olive oil/aveno/luke warm water/moisturizer stuff. No other new things in my world like soap/shampoo/detergent. The only "new" is Avastin and 3 days of Cipro which ended Friday morning.

Thanks for any feedback/ideas...

So sorry to hear about the itchies....I would say it is more likely due to the Cipro....antibiotics seem to react that way on the body, especially strong ones....I was also on Avastin for 6 months, and I never experienced it, but then I was getting the Decadron and Benadryl IV for the Taxol each time so that could have prevented it. I would definately check with the Dr though, it sounds like a reaction to one...please do monitor your B/P closely while you are on the Avastin....I didn't feel any different, but mine almost doubled...had to be put on meds for it, but since going off the "A", it is returning to normal over 3 months. Here is hoping that the Avastin is the third and successfully perfect component to your treatment.....Hope this helps.

Sheila always gives such good advice.

I was often put on Cipro during my
chemo tx. and I was fine the first
two times but then started to get itchy.
I guess my body was telling me it didn't
want any more.

Like Sheila, I think you need to check it
out with a doc but you probably already
knew that!!!
