Sorry to let you all know that our dear Kate is back in the hospital. She was taken yesterday ealy in the morning by ambulance with severe short of breath, also vomiting and diarrhea. The short of breath is because of inflammation in the lungs, and she was given steroid. The vomiting and the diarrhea is because of the new combo Tykerb/Xeloda that she started on Tuesday, so she stopped taking it for now.
When I spoke with her, she said she was feeling much better. She sounded good, and she was in good spirits. As you all know, she is very strong, and she is a fighter, and she is ready to fight again.
I feel so sad that she is going through all this, and she does not have a break. She is a wonderful person, very caring and very supportive, as you all know, and a great friend too. I was blessed to meet her here in this board.
Kate needs our prayers again for her to get better soon, and for this new combo to work fast so that she will have that deserved break.
Please, keep the prayers coming, and may God bless you all beautiful people.
KarlaV.

Giant prayers is right! And belief that the combo will do it's work without all the side effects. Kate, we love you and know that no heart beats stronger with courage and caring than yours does. Your smile is a national treasure to those of us who benefit from it so often and so well! We're cheering for you and can't wait to hear that "all is well" message! ma

Kate, just want you to know that we are praying for you. Take it easy. And take care.

And Karla V, make sure you get plenty of rest. Staying up at 3:47 am is not a good idea. But, that's also the beauty of this board - we can communicate any time. Thanks for updating Kate's situation for us.

Oh My 'lil tousled1, I am thankful that you are in the place you need to be even though it is a task to get well there. I know that the T/X combo is so different than what you are normally accustomed to, especially the beauty of being at home during these treatments. Alright Girl, so that dosage sent you for a loop.....solution...you are going to start off with the lowest dose and work your way back up. The firmness in your voice says one thing, "Try, Try Again". Glad that the bad side effects are lifted a bit from you now. A matter of starting over (sounds so simple) but I have seen you do so many amazing feats this last year and talking to you I have learned of feats that have encompassed your life. This will all settle down enough for you to gather your bearings again. Baby steps Lovey. One foot in front of the other.....and soon you'll be walking out the door (remember where that line came from??)>>Believe51

Just checking in to see if there is any more news on Kate's condition.

Dear Kate - use this time to relax and let the docs and nurses get you back on an even keel. I KNOW how hard it is to sleep in a hospital with them coming in at all hours for blood or to check vitals ... ask for a room at the end of the hall - not across from the noisy nurses station! I always try to keep my door closed when I am in the hospital.

SO MUCH love and good will coming your way.

I spoke with her yesterday and she was feeling a bit better than upon getting admitted. Her side effects were getting under control, she was also very dehydrated and that too is getting better. She will be restarting her Tykerb/Xeloda at the lowest dosing and will work her way back up to where she was.

Her voice was that of conviction. Her spirit was absolute. Guess what I am saying is that Kate was being Kate!! Remarkable>>Believe51

Kate, praying for you to feel better. You are such a warrior. I hope the lower dosage of the Tyberk/Xeloda combo will work wonders without the side effects.

Hi Kate,

I sure hope by now you are feeling a bit better. Oh, how I pray!!!! I was talking to my husband about you today on are way home from a check-up I had. I told him what a wonderful, caring "sister" you are. He enjoys hearing about the "sisters" here and not only are my prayers with you but so are my husbands.

Love to you "sister"
