Caryn had a liver biopsy today at Sloan and has been getting mixed answers on time to get results. She's very anxious to start on treatment so I want to ensure that we get a fast response if possible. The nurse is saying that it can take up to 7-10 days which sounds too long to me. I would appreciate knowing how long it took for you to get results.

Thanks,
Eric

Eric,

I don't know about the time IHC takes, but I think the Her2serum will help in some ways to check if the tumor has Her2 over expression and also the results come in around 5 days. It may not be the best answer but I thought I should mention.

Hi Eric, In Aug. of '98 it took only 2 days to get results of my liver biopsy. I was on Long Island and the pathologist in Westchester. Subsequent tests showed rapid growth and I was advised to hurry and get on tx. (I had hoped at the time to qualify for Herceptin trials, but it took too long to get those results and my onc said not to wait. He felt H would be fast-tracked soon and everyone metas could get it. H became available as of 9/28/98.)

I began on Taxotere in Sept. for my multiple tumors throughout my liver. I was able to add Herceptin in Nov of '98, after waiting 8 wks and the first set of CT scans to be sure the T was working. I was NED by May of '99.

I pray Caryn learns soon and moves as swiftly as possible. I understand her apprehension. I surely hope her protocol will save her, as it did me!! Please God! Stay strong and proactive. You're doing a great job. Caryn is lucky to have you advocating for her. Please tell her to focus all her attention on HEALING and bringing serenity into her every fiber of being, *knowing* she is on the right path and calling her desired destiny to her. Don't mean to get all spiritual, but it is my coping mechanism and has served me well...

Here it only takes around 2 days to get the results. Guess it depends on how busy the place is. ..sherryg

Eric, it's always been a week to 10 days for my HER2 results to come back; I'm in Oregon and the slides have to go to Washington, and it's a big lab so mine have to wait their turn. Hope you find out soon, but I would think that at Sloan they'd have their own path lab which should speed things up a bit, unless they also do path for other institutions which is pretty likely.

Thank you all. That helps. Andrea, I wasn't aware of the great success you 've had with Herceptin. FANTASTIC!!
