I just heard from my local Susan Komen affiliate (Chicago Area) and they are not able to help with travel scholarships for breast cancer meetings. Good luck to others.

Go through the national headquarters in Texas...I found it on the internet, the girl I talked to was Kacie...she is over grant money, lots of paperwork but I got a $1000.00 grant....although it does take about 4 months to be reimbursed after the trip.
I ran into the no funds from my local Komen Affiliate....hope this helps, I was at Rush today...looks like I will start going Thursdays now....I was in the waiting room and ran into a lady from Crystal Lake!

Hi -
Regarding the travel grants, Sandy H and I each took different routes to get ours. Since Sandy was from a more rural area with no local Komen affiliate, she went through the head office in Dallas. Got her grant no problem.

I live in a major metro area (where Komen all began) and was able to get my $1,000 grant from the local office. It may just depend on how many requests they have and how much they have budgeted for those travel grants. The check went directly to Joe, and I don't recall how long that took.

When I called my local Komen office and said I wanted to go as a patient advocate and at the request to help represent a major online BC support group at San Antonio, they almost fell over themselves to get me the application info. We are the type of people they want to give the grants to.

StephN,
Thanks also for your help. You would think the Chicago land area is large enough to help with things like this. They said they had 2 million local requests last year and fund in the area of treatment, ed and screening. They could only fill half the requests.

Onward to National Headquarters!
