Asking this question for another memeber...How many of you took COQ-10
during your year of herceptin? Did you discuss with your onc and did he
approve?
Thanks All,
Jean

I did not take CQ10. I did not take supplements whatsoever during chemo, radiation or herceptin. But did exercise a lot and wonder if that helped keep my heart strong??
God' Peace shine on you today,

Hi
I take 200 mg/day of Q 10. I am on 3 weekly herceptin. NED for 1.75 yrs after liver spot dx in 2005. First dx in 2001.
I found an article which talks about Q10 acting on the bcl-2 gene and then another article which talked about a molecule with a similar action which was synergistic with herceptin so I am taking an educated guess in saying that it is OK to take with herceptin and may even make it work better.
I also take it to protect the heart and because it crosses the blood brain barrier quite well so can exert its anticancer effects there. I cant take more than 200 mg a day because it makes me so alert I can't sleep.
Cheers
Jackie
The most important things I take are Q10 and omega 3 fatty acids.

I take 100 mcg of CoQ10 a day. My oncologist has never mentioned to me about any supplements I take. They are always written on my chart, but I'm not sure he even looks at them. My cardiologist said "I was on my own," when I told him about the fish oil and the Coq10. He did say that he thought the fish oil would reduce my cholestrol. I started taking CoQ10 after a muga of a 53. My latest went tup to a 55.

I took it during Herceptin but not dose dense. I also, during Herceptin, took Olive Leaf and still do (as well as many other supplements).

I was taking CoQ10 while on Herceptin alone, along with a boatload of other supplements, all ok'd by my doctor.

I took 200 mg of CoQ-10 daily during Herceptin. I continue to take it today.
My onc knew about it and said it was fine.

I began taking COQ 10 after two consecutive dropping MUGA's. I take 300 mg per day, which I will reduce when Herceptin concludes in August. I told my onc about it, and he just shrugged.

I started taking 100mg COQ10 a day after I got taken off (temporarily) Herceptin due to low MUGA scores. I figure it can't hurt... and I get my next MUGA July 2 (and that will decide if I'm off Herceptin permanently, or if I'll continue treatment). I forgot to mention this to my onc.

Also took 400 mg of CQ 10 during herceptin year and now down to 200 mg. Also do the omega 3 and increased my daily walk for rate and distance. The muga never went below 55 % and the latest EKG ( done 3 months after the year of herceptin) showed improvement. ( I have a funky EKG ). Was it the supplements? Was it the increase in walking? Was it both? Anyone reading about and have comments about the Vit. D studies?
Hugs, Bonnie
Here is a link to Vitacost who are the cheapest for CoQ10 I have found.
They are recommending up to 1200mg a day, and have made that sort of level affordable.

I'm on Herceptin indefinitely, every 3 wks, and so far my MUGA has been great. My onc is fine with me taking it (and all the other supplements I take!)
