GlaxoSmithKline Offers New Tools to Help Patients Get Free Medicines

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE: GSK) has launched a new website and toll-free help line to make it easier to enroll in GSK Access, the company's new patient assistance program for low income Medicare Part D patients. Beginning today, patients can log onto http://www.gsk-access.com (http://www.gsk-access.com/)or call 1-866-475-3678 to get information on GSK Access, which offers prescription medicines for free to eligible Part D- enrolled patients.
"GSK Access provides the extra help some low income senior and disabled Medicare Part D patients need in getting their medicines," said Sandy Moulton director of the program for GlaxoSmithKline. "The program's new website provides details on eligibility, income requirements and a list of the more than 50 GSK medicines that are included in the program. Patients can also download an application form from the site to enroll in the program.
"For patients who don't have access to the Internet, or would like to speak to a program counselor, we've launched a new help line with knowledgeable staff who can answer any questions they, their family members, doctors or pharmacists may have about the program," said Moulton.
GSK Access, which began January 1, 2007, provides free medicines to Medicare Part D enrollees who meet the following criteria:
* Income that is below 250% Federal Poverty Level (FPL), * Residence in one of the 50 states or District of Columbia, and * Proof of $600 in expenditures on prescription medicines in the current calendar year.</PRE>Oncology patients who are enrolled in Medicare Part D plans also will be able to receive their medicines through GSK's existing patient assistance program Commitment to Access by meeting the following criteria:
* Income that is below 350% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), * Residence in one of the 50 states or District of Columbia, and * Proof of $600 in expenditures on prescription medicines in the current calendar year.</PRE>Medicare patients who are not enrolled in Part D remain eligible for the company's existing patient assistance programs: Commitment to Access and Bridges to Access.
Patients with income below 135% of the Federal Poverty Level are not eligible for GSK's patient assistance programs because they qualify for full assistance under the government's subsidy program.
