I know we are entitled to our medical records under the HIPPA law. I have searched everything, and I can't find out if we are entitled to the doctors notes about us? Long before bc...any time I picked up my medical records the doctors notes were *always* included.
Everything I found on this says we are allowed to have everything in our file. (But maybe doctors notes are *their* personal property?) I want them more now since they said I CAN'T have them. LOL

Chelee,
If you need an immediate answer get hold of these people:

They will be moderating our next teleconference in March.

Guess, I have been lucky because when I ask for copies of my chart, and I do every 6 months, I get everything labs, scans, doctor notes. I was told I can have everything but the tumor board reports! hugs, Sandy

Joe, This is absolutely excellent! It sounds like they can help me with several problems I am having right now. It will be nice to find out about the medical records...but I have some serious problems that I need answers too. I've been making calls and searching all over to find answers to some legal issues I'm having...this could not come at a more perfect time.
Thank you so much Joe!

I sit and read my chart every time I go in for Herceptin...(every 3 weeks). A couple of times the nurses wanted to take it from me....I told them "I'm a nurse, I know the rules, I am allowed to read this anytime I want." As far as copies, my onc. will copy anything from the chart for me at any time....when I have brain MRI's, she makes sure I get a CD disc of the MRI..

Sandy, I never thought about the tumor board meeting report. Actually, I would love to see that too. Techically I would think that would be part of our medical file too? Its about us...it should explain why they decided on our entire trt. I'd like to see that since I was told from day one I had no say in my trt which I know now is not true.
I already emailed Loyola to find out about the doctors notes. I have never had a problem getting doctors notes when I requested my files in the past. Doctors notes were always included...many times I couldn't read them...but they were there. http://www.her2support.org/vbulletin/images/smilies/smile.gif This is the first time I have been told no.
Sandy, did you ask why you aren't entitled to the tumor board files? I'm just curious if they gave you a reason?
