I have been experiencing sharp pain when I inhale for about 1 1/2 weeks. It is not constant and I have even had a day where I had no pain at all. The pain is in the exact same spot every time though which is on my right side right below my breast inside of my ribs. I keep telling myself that maybe it is just indigestion, but I am getting concerned since the pain is in the same spot every time. I have no cough and have not had any respiratory infections or colds.

Has anyone else had symptoms like this? I am planning on calling my onc later this week if it persists, but would love to hear any thoughts on it from the board.

Thank you
Patricia

Patricia,

Just wondering if you are on Herceptin- I have had pain inside the ribs on one side ever since beginning Herceptin. Also I have had pain with inhalation at times before with indigestion (as crazy as that sounds). When it was bad, it would bother me for a week or two before it got better. I would ask your doc about it though.

Hi Kelly,

Thanks for your reply. I finished with herceptin in September and I remember having that as well, but this is different. It is higher (just below my breast), the rib pain I had while on herceptin was at the bottom of my ribs. I am hoping it is just indigestion, but I will call the onc this week just to be safe.

I would tell your oncologist. I have a pain below my right breast. It's possibly a hairline fracture of pulled muscle from coughing too much. My oncologist examined me and didn't seem concerned. Hope it's nothing. MJO

I also have recently experienced pain under my right breast/rib area. I did get it checked out and it turned out to be "nothing." I think it was due to a bad cough I had, maybe I pulled a muscle?

Just have it checked. It is harder to guess and worry. Never take anything for granted. Go to the Oncolgist today and have it scanned. Always stay ahead of the game.

I constantly have "rib pain" from my mastectomy expander port. Scar tissue is probably the culprit for me. Just that one area tends to hurt - and I know mets aren't there. It feels like ribs, but it's just below the incision where that button was that they used to expand my skin. Just get it checked out. What is your DX?

Hi Patricia,

My mother has been complaining of the same type of thing. She says it feels like there is a brick there. None of the doctors have found anything unusual. Guess when she first started getting checked for that? Twenty years ago! so, I hope yours is nothing too! God Bless, Cathy

My pain is in exactly the same place, but I have a non-productive cough, and wonder whether it is due to a pulled muscle. It has also been very hard for me to breathe. I have a 4th treatment of doxil/avastin coming up, and then we'll do some scans before Christmas.

Let me know what your onc says.
