new primary while on chemo

Has anyone experienced or heard of development of a contralateral, primary tumor while the patient is on chemo for mets from an earlier one? This has just happened to my dear wife. Any info people can share will be much appreciated.

Has it been biopsied and deemed a new primary or is it the same pathology as the first tumor? I have a friend who got 2 lumps (one in the same breast and one in the other breast - both originating from the first tumor) while on adjuvant chemo. After chemo was done, she had both breasts removed.

This can be a new breast cancer as well with a totally different pathology or the same one in a different breast/place.

the new tumor is primary, has distinct patho. ductal vs lobular for the original.

Without really knowing any other details... Are you sure the tumor was not there to begin with?
My "bad" breast was found to have one tumor via Ultra Sound and it was not visible with Mammogram. I had a lumpectomy... AFTERWARDS, I received a breast MRI and two more tumors were found.
My point is-
Did she have all the diagnostics necessary in order to make sure that there was nothing in the "good" breast to begin with? I don't know if finding it now while on chemo makes any difference vs finding it before chemo.

Had I not had the breast MRI, I would be walking around with two tumors that would have been called "recurrances" once they were found...
