does anyone know about multiple myeloma

My very dear girl friend was dx last week with multiple myeloma and from what i have been able to figure out is advanced stage 3b I think beacuse of kidney problems. The thing that I was wondering about was the effect on the brain.She has lesions in her spine and skull and if anybody knows anything about mm I would be grateful thanks Leslie

Les, my grandfather had multiple myeloma. It affects the way your body deals with proteins.The protein clump up and clog organs. The kidneys are usually the first affected. There is a new medication called Velcade that is promising. MM is on the rise, and younger people are getting it. I'm from Nebraska and i know a dr. from Omaha moved to Nebraska because he said we had the highest MM rate.
