For those of you who have had HER1 testing done, do you know which lab in the U.S. your samples were sent to? My mother's onc has agreed to test her pleural effusion fluid for HER1, but the lab he uses in San Diego doesn't do the test.

Thanks in advance.

Targeted Molecular Genetics does the test. Their website is www.tmdlab.com (http://www.tmdlab.com)

They do the test 2 ways - just like Her2 can be tested. IHC where you would get a score of 0, 1+, 2+ or 3+ or they do the fish test (probably more expensive). However, CALL them or go on the website. They need the tumor slides a specific way for the IHC and that might mean you have to do the FISH since your samples won't be fresh (but come from your mom's tumor block - preserved in paraffin).

The website has a phone number that you and/or your mom's doctor can call. I think the IHC test is not accurate on a parafin sample (heard this at a presentation at ASCO).

Kind regards and have a nice weekend
