I just got back the results of BRCA testing, and tested entirely negative.

(So, just WHEN are they going to find more BRCA's to track....)

Hi Kat;

Just today I got my first result from the CTC test. It came back a big fat ZERO!!!!!!. Yea. I also had the Her2 serum and it was 8. A few years ago I had the BRCA1&2 genetic test done and it also came back negative.

BRACA testing came out negative

What is CTC test and what is it testing for? Awaiting my result for BRAC but onc. said only 30% I carry the gene.

Circulating Tunor Cell (CTC) cell serach by veridex.

basically they can count the number cancer cells circulating in your blood, any thing less than 5 is considered negative. The technique uses monoclonal antibodies for about 5 different common cancer cell types that are tagged so they glow in the dark. Then they use an instrument called flow cytometer to count any cells that have the antibody attached. Here is a link. At the moment it is only approved for monitoring metastic patients. My Onc hopes that will changes as he thinks the test is extremely useful.

kk1, Do you have to have reoccurring bc in order to perform the serum HER2 test??? kat in the delta

Do you know if you have to have reoccurring BC before getting the CTC test,and /or HER2 serum test ?? kat
Also, would the BRAC genetic test affect the insurance of my children?? kat in the delta THANKS!!!!!!!!
