Okay, I just got back from Sams club and got a huge twenty dollar supply of olive oil for my new her2 diet regimen. What are others doing here as far as daily intake to help bind up that nasty her2 molecule and enhance the efficacy of herceptin. I am thinking not too excessive here, like one TBS/day- too many calories in it for much more than that. I tell you one thing, I hate of the taste of the stuff so I am going to hide it in cooking.

My suggestion if it is a choice between oilve and fish would be fish, or if not fish flax.
Things to consider;
Some olive has quite high omega six up to 50%, although in good oils it can be 10% only - see previous post on olive oil. The words huge supply for $20 made me wonder about the grade. In Europe a reasonable quality cold pressed virgin olive oil costs about $8 for 500ml, which top labels costing a lot more. There is a previous post with some links to charts and figures.
Some trials (limited in number and I have only seen summaries) suggest that omega nine oleic may up grade growth for some cell lines. See recent posts on omega six for link.
If you need it to cook with it is a better option than most oil as potenially low in sixes (quality dependent), but if just a supplement for health I would go for seeds and nuts as a source as a first choice of fats, particularly omega six, but if anything on a supplement basis use fish oil.
Oil oil does appear to have other qualities antioxidant etc, so it more complex, but the trials reults are nowhere as clear cut as for the threes. I am not saying stay entirely away from it just if you are trying to make an impact short term and it is a chioce between the two I would personally go for fish, or at least a mix.
I have not seen a trial yet that does not suggest some benifit for fish oil.
I am not an expert, and so would suggest you check it out for yourself. If you do no have time to do all the reading the only reassurance I can give you is what I am suggesting is what I am trying at the moment just on general health grounds, - and I know how time consuming reading all this material is.
For me I am more and more convinced that omega six intake is a critical factor. If you check the Linus Pauling and other sites you will see whilst there may be side effects of omega three they are limited. My perspective was I have never seen a negative on omega three but have seen one or two questions on omega nine for particular cell lines, and a lot on omega six. In addition the olive oil might contain omega six. Your body may also have stored omega six.
I suppose it depends on your risk factor, what you are trying to acheive, and how far you are happy to take your own line. You might want to give some thought to adopting a high omega three strategy for a few months, and keep an eye on you data. As above I am no expert. After all I have read it is the postion I have adopted, just for general health, but you must check it for your self. The decsions are yours.
And finally read the labels on any prepared supermarket items, for example something in olive oil, when you read the small print may mean some olive but mainly sunflower, and most products contain vegetable oils.
I hope this is some help.

I TOO drink a TBS of olive oil when I first get up in the morning. I also make my own salad dressing w/ olive oil as well as cook w/ it. Though I buy organic evoo, Gina told me that she uses the NOT evoo as it has a higher amt of oleic acid (ie. I believe 2% vs 1%) so in this regard, cheaper would be better. I'm the "freak" who religiously follows the Breast Cancer diet:), but in MY opinion, every little thing you can do can make a difference. Take care and good health.
