I wanted to share my first good news in 4 years !!!!
I haven't been on this site for a couple of weeks because I knew the PET was coming up and figured I would wait thinking I would have a ? about more mets. But I am actually NED , wow, I never thought I would say that . It was so nice to tell my 3 young children the news.I know that things change but I am going to enjoy the moment.
I have learned so much from this site , ?'s I would have never even thought to ask , Thanks
I will still be taking herceptin weekly, it is easier on my heart , my MUGA hasn't dropped since I switched from every 3 weeks to every week.Plus I started taking co 10.
Does anyone have a flaxseed muffin recipe??

That is such super news!

And you can stay on the Herceptin which will keep you in good stead now.

I think someone posted a flaxseed muffin recipe a while back. Maybe do a search for it! I just take the Barleen's oil capsules and be done with it.

CONGRATS BONNIE!!! Wonderful news it's always so encouraging to the rest of us to hear good news!!! If you do a search under flax seed muffins you get a few posts about the receipe and some different links. CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES!!!

Dear Bonnie, I am so happy for you! I remember the wonderful and delightful shock it was to me a few weeks ago to have my last PET show up NED! I was so thrilled! I could hardly believe it, and my oncologist was just as surprised and pleased. It is so good of you to share such good news. It lifts all our spirits! Hugs, Tricia

Dear Bonnie,

I am so, SO very happy for you...keep up the good work and have the MERRIEST HOLIDAY you can DREAM uP!!! I go in for my very first PET SCAN on December 13th to see if they can visualize a little better what is really going on in that one stubborn sternun bone met...I will let you all know. In the meantime--as usual...I have been boning up on my PET SCAN INFO overload....smile....did any body hear about the very special PET SCAN DIET you should eat the day prior to the scan? I will cut and paste the main points below. Also, do not do any extra physical activity the day just prior to exam...Enjoy!

PET SCAN DIET
Twelve hours (12 hrs) before your examination you will need to follow the diet recommended below. These are examples of items you can include in the diet you must follow prior to your exam, however, you DO NOT have to consume every single item listed below. These are just examples. Strict adhesion to these recommendations is very important for adequate distribution of the 18-FDG in your body.

Recommended Diet: Low Carbohydrate, High Protein, High Fat Diet Examples

Breakfast

Scramble egg prepared with milk and butter (2)
Bacon or sausage links/patties (2)
Whole-wheat toast (1 slice)
Peanut butter (2 tablespoons)
<LI>Coffee, Tea, and/or Water (unsweetened or artificial sweetener) Lunch

Whole wheat bread (1 slice regular or 2 slices diet)
Mayonnaise (2 tablespoons)
Turkey, chicken, tuna, ham, or other luncheon meat (3 ounces)
Iceberg lettuce
Cheese (1 ounce)
Cottage cheese (1/2 cup)
<LI>Coffee, tea, water, or diet soft drink (unsweetened or artificial sweetener) Dinner

Beef, pork, chicken, turkey, or other unbreaded meat (3 ounces)
Salad greens (1 1/2 cup)
Salad dressing, not diet (2 tablespoons)
Green beans (1/2 cup)
Baked potato (1/2 cup)
Sour cream (2 tablespoons)
Butter (2 tablespoons)
<LI>Coffee, tea, water, or diet soft drink (unsweetened or artificial sweetener) THE DAY OF THE EXAM:

You should fast for at least 6 hours. Adequate oral water ingestion or intravenous hydration is recommended. (Intravenous glucose infusions are contraindicated).

18-FDG is a radiopharmaceutical which is administered intravenously; therefore, once you report to our clinic, intravenous access will be established in the form of a peripheral intravenous line (IV). Peripheral temporary venous access such as that used for chemotherapy administration or dialysis cannot be utilized. Permanent infusion ports cannot be utilized.

You should avoid any vigorous exercise the day before the exam.

AT THE TIME OF INTRAVENOUS INJECTION:

You will lie on a stretcher or upright chair in a quiet room. Talking or reading during that hour is discouraged, as it affects the distribution of the 18-FDG in your body.

Your blood glucose level will need to be checked prior to the intravenous 18-FDG administration. High serum glucose levels diminish the diagnostic accuracy of this examination. This is especially important in patients who are diabetic; therefore, you should alert the nuclear medicine clinic staff if you are a diabetic, prior to receiving the 18-FDG. In some situations, insulin may be administered to control your blood glucose serum level if this examination will be performed.

In certain cases, the placement of a urinary catheter may be required to eliminate confusing urinary tract activity, for abdominal and pelvic evaluation.

DIABETIC PATIENTS:

If you are a diabetic patient, you will receive specific counseling by a nuclear medicine physician prior to scheduling your PET scan. Please alert the clerk at the time of scheduling that you are a diabetic patient for more specific instructions prior to the examination.

THE EXAMINATION:

After one hour of intravenous administration, you will lie on the camera for up to 1 hour for the study acquisition. (Routine scan time will take 30 minutes). Please be aware that repeat scans of specific areas of your body may be necessary for diagnostic purposes, this may prolong your examination time.

AFTER THE EXAMINATION:

You may resume your previous diet and medication regimen. No special precautions are necessary.
