My wife has multi brain mast. We are getting two conflicting stories on whether Her2 tumors respond to this treatment. Two radioligists say that Her2 tumors are resistant to whole brain because they cannot hit the tumors with enough energy to kill Her2 cells. The other says there are no studies that breakdown effectiveness with Her2 vs other tumors. Also, what side effects can we expect to see? My wife is a teacher and wants to conyinue to work.

There are several ladies on this website that would disagree with your onc. My wife Christine was diagnosed in 1999 with 3 tumors, she had Gamma Knife and whole brain radiation and has no evidence of disease.

I would suggest a second opinion. Talk to a radiation oncologist.

We need more details such as how many tumors, what size, and where you live.

I disagree with what you are being told. I had several brain tumors(I am HER2 +++ ) in Aug of 03 - I Had WBR with good sucess. It left 3 very very small tumors - I followed with cyberknife and I have been clean ever since. There is some residual tumor left but my follow up scan always show "Stable- no new activity) So the WBR must have done something. Get a 2nd opinion from a specialist . God Bless . Patty D

Add me to the "disagree" list. My experience (and I'm HER2 +++) was about 20 small tumors throughout the brain were treated with WBR. That was Summer 2004. So far, so good!
