serum Her2 blood test

I see alot of people talking about this test. I have not heard of it or had it. What is it exactly called so i can ask about it?

Hi Michele.

The test is in fact called the HER2 Serum ELISA test. This test identifies the level of circulating HER2 oncoprotein in the blood. Some of this protein is shed, or "cleaved" from the surface of the B/C cells. A baseline is established with the first test, and the subsequent levels are used to monitor the efficacy of treatment with Herceptin. The hope is that your test numbers will go down or remain low, rather than rise, as treatment continues.There is a link to the Bayer website on this (HER2 Support)website, that provides a tutorial of sorts, explaining just how the test works.

Hi Michele,

I had this test "Her2 ELISA" done a month ago and my reading came as 6.3. The normal range in my lab is 0-12.
