View Full Version : CT scan of abdomen / pelvis
Can somebody tell me as to whether to eat or fast prior to a CT scan of abdomen / pelvis? I've done this many times, but the last one was 3 months ago. So, of course with chemo brain, I cannot remember! Thanks

My instructions are to fast at LEAST 4 hours prior to the scan. I usually schedule for morning and have not eaten since late the night before. I figure the more "empty" I am, the more anomylies they might have a chance to see. (Just my thinking.)
My best wishes for a good, clean scan!
Hi, Jojo
I had a cat and pet scan at the same day, and I was told not to eat anything after midnight the day before the test. I could only have water, and medicine was ok too, because the day before the scans I had chemo, so I was nauseated, and I needed nausea medicine.
Hugs, and praying that your scans will be remarkable.
Take care,
KV.
KV, you said that you had a CT & PET scan at the same time? Were you referring to a new type of machine, which I'm not sure of its exact name... CT/PET fusion or something like that? It is supposed to be the newest scanner nowadays.
Hi, Jojo
Answering your question, I did not have the knew kind of Pet/Cat scan at the same time in one machine, but I have heard of it. I wish I had, because it takes only about 30 min. I had the cat scan first, then in a few minutes I had the pet scan.
Praying for clean scans for you.
Take care,
KV.
