HERA 2 Year Results

Does anyone know when the 1 year of Herceptin versus 2 years of Herceptin results will be ready? I heard (from an onco at Sloan Kettering) that she thought they would be presented at the ASCO November meeting but I haven't been able to find anything else out?

Are there any preliminary results or info? I will still be on my 1st year of Herceptin until next June and I am wondering if the results will be out by then in order to make a timely decision on a second year.

All I could find was the following:

Results: After only one year of follow-up, the researchers found that women taking Herceptin every three weeks had a 46% reduction in recurrence compared to women who did not get any Herceptin. These results were statistically significant, meaning they were probably due to Herceptin and not just to chance.

Because these results were released early, after one year, the researchers were not able to compare outcomes of giving Herceptin for two years as opposed to one year. Also, these early results did not show a significant benefit in overall survival (how long women lived). But the researchers believe that the survival rates will improve as they follow the women over time.

The HER2 Support Group will be attending SABCS in December and will publish all important announcements daily during rthe conference.

Hi Becky,

According to Dr. Piccart-Gebhart's HERA presentation at ASCO (slide #18):

"Results regarding optimal trastuzumab duration (1 versus 2 years) should be available by 2008".

Seems a long time to wait but I guess they can't really have any meaningful results until then...
