Lapatinib: any more detailed info?

Hi, I have been told I could be eligible for the Lapatinib trial. Do you have some info regarding results, so far, how long has it been going on, side effects.... Or is anyone doing it? Please let me know. Thanks. Beatrice

Hello. There are several lapatinib trials going. I am in a Phase III study, which is xeloda, with or without lapatinib. It seems designed for those of us who failed herceptin. I am in the arm without the lapatinib, and am currently just taking xeloda. I don't think the link from this site to it is working, but if you just google it, the clinical trial info comes up...

Gail's daughter, Sherry, is on Lapatinib trial, as is my sister...they receive only Lapatinib for brain mets...testing to see whether or not it crosses the blood brain barrier.
My sister is currently undergoing the preliminary scans and will recieve the drug next Wednesday. There was a post from Gail a few days ago saying that her daughter hasdoing very well on the drug and there was pretty significant indications that it does cross the blood brain barrier.

This is Sherry and after being on the medication for nine days my PET scans showed that the drug had made some tumours disappear and others shrink in my brain and my liver. I have had an allergic reaction to it, but that seems to be under control now. I have been going back to work.

Dear Sherry, thank you so much. I amdm first of all happy for you and then this gives me hope. In fact, me too I have mets both in my liver and in the brain. I am in contact with doctors for the trial, so we'll see.

How wonderful that you are able to go back to work, Sherry.
My sister just arrived back from Boston. We just picked them up the airport...she's exhausted...two days of tests. We are anxious for her to get started on the meds. Keep us posted.
