Chemo during a cold

I'm just wondering if anyone else was allowed to move forward with chemo during a cold. I'm supposed to start taxol tommorrow, but my dh brought this wonderful cold home to me.I just finished AC, but did not have any viruses or anything.

You should be able to get your taxol. I had a nasty sinus infection during the AC's (which is more depleting to your white blood cell count than taxol) and I got my chemos on time. Ended up on Augmentin then Cipro to get rid of it (took six weeks). Just make sure you take your temperature so you can call your doc if you get a fever.

I never had a cold while on chemo; however, I did have a bladder infection & Cipro got rid of it. Yet, I was still able to have my chemo on time.

So, I think you would be able to take Taxol, even with a cold. I recall 2 chemo patients having colds while on chemo, and they did not have any serious complications; although, it did take them a bit longer than normal to get over their colds.

At my cancer center we have some private rooms as well as the curtined area for the infusions. The sickest patients needing isolation get those rooms, as well as anyone with a cold.
If possible, call your infusion suite ahead of time and let them know you have the cold so they can set you up in an area where you will not spread germs to others.
As long as you feel OK to go out, they should give you your treatment providing your blood counts are what they should be. Your nurse may wear a mask if she thinks you might be contagious.
The docs like to keep us on our chemo schedules as much as possible.

Thanks ladies-I'am concerned that I may pass this someone else.My dh tried to stay away from me, but my two year old caught it. So of course I got it too. I'll be sure to call my infusion center in the morning , I'm sure they also have a seperate area.
