I did not understand the seriousness of being HER2+++ until I found this website. I am 42.
I received lumpectomy & radiation (finished rads 3 weeks ago) and although my breast looks great, I am wondering if I made the right decision to have the lumpectomy. One tumor was ER- , .9mm and the other tumor was ER+, 1.7 mm. Both tumors were NOT connected to one another yet in the same quadrant. Negative nodes. No BRCA mutation.
Granted, whats done is done -but I was wondering if there were any studies/ data regarding specifically HER2+ recurrance vs HER2- recurrance.

AND has anyone had a mastectomy after radiation- How did you fair? Is there a timeline on when one should have mastectomy after lumpectomy and rads -does the scar tissue form right away or does it take a long time.

I know these are a lot of questions, and but anyone who has experience/ input would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

Mts,

Christine had a lumpectomy in 1990. Had a recurrence but not in the breast. There was a study done last year which said that the prognosis is the same for a lumpectomy or masectomy.

After Chris made her decision for a lumpectomy, her surgeon was delighted and told her that she was happy with the decision. "If there is no recurrence, great; if there is, we can always go back and take the whole breast.

Your tumors could be considered small.
