Good morning from the misty woods of the Northwest.
The following link is to a good article on the benefits of vitamin D and how the controversy over how much we really need has heated up. The research on getting sun vs. skin cancers is also worth considering.
Now, if we just HAD some sun around here ...

There was recently some very interesting Harvard research showing that 79% early lung cancer patients with high amounts of vitamin D in their blood diagnosed in summer survived five years, while only 29% of those with low vitamin D diagnosed in winter did. It's amazing that anyone here in the UK survives lung cancer at all.

I checked and there does seem to be a possible similar connection with breast cancer, at least the ER- type. Definitely needs to be studied.

Take care,
Christine

It is definitely a challenge here (average rainfall 144 inches a year). But I do get out there for 15-20 minutes each side on every possible sunny day. Even when it is 30 degrees outside and I can only handle half as much... exposure... I'm still NED these days.

My sweetie has no intention of joining me but in Canada I was able to get vitamin D3 for him, and hope it will make a difference for him too. Thanks for the article, StephN.

I had come across some similar research, and even while living in sunny southern CA, have added vitamin D3 supplements to my wellness regimen.

I also try to get outdoors without sunscreen, approx 30 min each day. Keeps me tanned, and I hope healthy!
