clear scan

Just wanted tp post that have results from scan after 6 months on xeloda and herceptin for recurring lump and skin mets. CT scan of chest and abdomen clear. We were worried cause I had sinus and infectioin for a while so thought it may be pulmonary fibrosois ( apparently a slight chance side effect of Herceptin . I was very worried cause the treatment is suspending herceptinand large doses of steroids(which gave me avascular
necrosis).The skin mets have gone and the lump appears to as well so that is good. Still need to have a bone scan and who knows what will happen after going off xeloda. That is why i am interested in finding a vaccine trial that alllows previous herceptin use ( in Australia).

Linda, that's great news about your scans! Will you be staying on Herceptin after stopping Xeloda??? Have you found any info on vaccine trials in Australia? If there are any, you or your onc should contact the trial doctor and ask whether they are considering starting a vaccine study that would allow Herceptin use. If they get enough interest in such a study, it might help get one off the ground. When I go the Seattle, I'll ask how they go about getting a study going and if they have any info about Vaccine/Herceptin trials elsewhere, such as Australia. Will keep you posted.

That sounds like great news! Congratulations. I am currently in treatment for skin mets also. My treatment plan was Navelbine/herceptin for 3 months for recurrence to ancillary lymphs, then after skin mets confirmed I was switched to Hyperthermia Radiation. I take 1000 mg. of Xeloda daily and receive radiation daily, with the Hyperthermia treatment twice a week. I have 15 treatments completed. I needed the Hyperthermia rads because I was radiated back in 2002 to the same area. Seems to be working well. Mets are almost gone. Onc says she is "thrilled"....never do I hear an oncologist say the word "thrilled". LOL.

So glad that your scans show good results. My Med. Onc. will do another PET/CT fusion scan after rads are done. I'll know more then.

Thanks for your replies. Xeloda does seem like a good drug and am hoping it will stay clear for a while ( haven't had longer than 3 months off chemo since oct 2002 so this will be a new experience but a little afraid to hope.
Lolly let me know if you find out anything my onc is going to san Antonio so I will ask him to investigate ther also.
