They have been testing for HER2 only in the last 4-5 years upon the FDA approval of Herceptin.

I was NED from 1990 until I had a recurrance in 1999. Unfortunately most of the women on this board had recurrences at some point or another. As Herceptin is only presently in clinical trials to see if it could prevent recurrances among Stage I, II and III women.

You may want to visit our "sister" board "Breast Cancer Support" it is an excellent board for general breast cancer patients and their caregivers. I am sure there are many women there who have yet to have a recurrance.
