National Cancer Survivors Day will be recognized on June 13, 2004, through the Seventh Annual Celebration of Life sponsored by Cancer Survivorship: San Diego!, an umbrella organization comprised of cancer survivors, hospitals, cancer centers, researchers, and support service organizations in San Diego County. The event will be held from 12:00 noon. - 5:15 p.m. at Bloch Cancer Survivors Park at Spanish Landing Park (directly across Harbor Drive from the San Diego Airport), and is offered free to the public.
More than 20 medical experts will give small group lectures in English and Spanish on many issues of concern to cancer patients. This year's Celebration of Life will also feature a large health fair with more than 30 exhibitors and the latest information about preventing, detecting and treating cancer, as well as live entertainment, dancing, refreshments and group activities. There will also be plenty of opportunity for cancer patients to exchange information about their experiences, and talk to local health care professionals.
"This will be a day of inspiration and fun," said Nicki Hobson, event coordinator. "The good news to be shared is that today more and more people are not only surviving cancer, but leading full, productive lives in spite of it—they're thriving. There is plenty of reason for optimism and celebration, and that's what this day is all about."
Attendance of approximately 2,000 is expected. Registrations can be emailed (nohobson@aol.com), faxed (760-598-7304) or mailed to PO Box 880906, San Diego, CA 92168-0906
