My mom is HER-2 positive and 77 years old. I'm sorry to hear about your mom's mets. The combination of herceptin, taxol and carboplatin is generally very effective for the first round treatment of mets (click on cross-link below).
I noticed that your mom was previously on Arimidex. On the assumption that she is estrogen/progesterone positive, you may also want to ask your onc to upgrade the Arimidex to Femara, Aromasin or Faslodex. The serial use of the various anti-estrogen drugs can also be very effective, especially for HER-2 positive breast cancer.
