Chandi,

I managed to find the original Slamon article that sets forth a table cited by Dr. Mark Pegram et. al. in an oncology article published in 2000. The cross-link below will take you to the article and included table. Please note that Mark Pegram works with Dennis Slamon at UCLA.

Bear with me on this one. The table entitled, "In Vitro Drug Interactions Between Trastuzumab [i.e., Herceptin] and Select Chemotherapeutic Agents," lists "5-Fluoroucil" as an "antagonistic" agent when combined with herceptin. Importantly, when a patient takes Xeloda, the patient's body converts Xeloda into 5-Fluorucil. 5-Fluorucil, based upon the Slamon article, works against herceptin.

In any event, please check with your doctor and contact UCLA if necessary regarding this point. I hope this helps clarify matters a bit.
