Hi Ladies: In reference to the post 2 below....I was just curious as to how many lymph nodes you had removed and if it caused any Lymphadema and if it did, to what degree.
Here's my info:
23 Lymph Nodes removed - 14 positive -
Mild Lymphadema
Thanks in advance for your responses. Linda

18 removed
11 positive
Mildest level of swelling, but then again, I'm only 3 months out from surgery
I went to a therapist 6 times. I do exercises for prevention every other day, and wear a compression sleeve when I'm in the car > 1 hour. My biggest risk is I have two children (oldest is 2) that I have to lift a lot and it's my right arm and of course I'm right handed. My therapist tells me that if I tell her early enough, she can help me get rid of any swelling I'll ever have over the course of a few months, and to not be afraid of it if it happens. I hope she's right!

Had total of 18 lymph nodes taken out. Three with the sentinal node, which was bad and they took the next ones that were full of tumor and sticking together. Then had lower axilla and 15 nodes removed, of which 5 were bad - 2 almost completely tumor and 3 microscopic cancer.
Totals = 8 of 18 bad.
NO lymphedema so far. It is over 3 1/2 years since my surgery, which was a lumpectomy, then the nodes out when they put in my port.
17 positive out of 18 removed
mild swelling in lower arm
starting to wear arm sleeve more often since this week.

18 lymph nodes removed with mastectomy, zero were positive. Last fall 3 more removed from the supraclavicular area, all 3 positive...I was advised to wear a sleeve anytime I fly and also if inactive for a long period of time. No problems so far.

16 nodes removed w/10 pos.
No lymphadema - have sleeve for computer, flights and long car trips. Swim as often as I can because was told this was one of the best forms of exercise for prevention. Have a 22 month old and always cautious about pulling my arm with her weight!

Hi Michelle U. Yes you had a lot. I had 45 with 44 positive!! I wondered where they all came from. My surgeon said she just kept digging until she got a clean one. No lymphedema in my arm but in the chest wall. I wear a jobst sleeve except at night. Have been to 2 lymphedema clinics because of high risk of lymphedema. I do lots of MLD and my husband does kinesio taping on chest and back. Works well for me. I am 3 years and 4 months out and in remission. If anyone of you are wondering yes there is life after lymph node involvement. I had to learn that on my own as the docs don't tell you there is. Hugs, Sandy H

In response to the roll call, I had 24 lymph nodes removed, 11 were positive. My surgery was almost 3 years ago and so far no lymphadema. I do wear a compression sleeve when flying and try to avoid any tight clothing sleeves or constricting jewelry...I still have numbness in my upper arm, but otherwise, no complaints.
