Is a soldier on a battlefield "on a journey"?
I don't think so---it is a part of his life, but not the whole thing.
Also, I think that the word "journey" is like a lot of the psychobabble words eg. euphemisms we use these days. It is called a journey because there is no cure and nobody really knows what to do or say. You are expected to die and the "journey" is the road from life to death, punctuated with medication.
It is a very bad word, and I would rather hear a doctor say, "I am going into the battlefield with you and we will fight this thing together!" A helper on the journey implies just that---a caregiver.
