Get the markers tested. You need a baseline. My med onc did not have any markers for me until I started my chemo, said they would probably not "read anything" that early in my disease process. With adjuvent treatment the CA 27-29 was high due to blood counts being off and the impact of neupogen.
After getting off rads the marker settled in and was accurate as a marker for me. After my mets and reaching NED we do BOTH the CEA and the CA 27-29. They both remain low and I feel good about these as an indicator of my NED status.
