Shelley -
You said a very important thing. When we get a cancer diagnosis, our "normal" life goes on hold while we interrupt things to go into "cancer fight" mode.
How we adjust after the initial surgeries and treatment is finished is a very personal thing - BUT we ALL want to return to "normal."
The NEW "normal" will not be the same as the OLD "normal." There is no way, but we have to get back as much of our comfort zone in life as possible. This is VERY important to keep our head screwed on and stay in control as best we can.
This is not an easy task, and everyone on this board has to struggle with this concept day in and day out, survivors AND families.
When we do not get the support we need at a given moment, it can be impossible NOT to let go a little and wonder what bad thing will happen next.
That med onc did not have her "good bedside manner" turned on to see that some upbeat words were appropriate at the time of discussing a brain met. Shame on her! This is Patient Handling 101! I don't care how many other patients she lost that day, she needed to focus on the one in front of her.
