View Full Version : Stage IV regular brain mri\'s
One of the headings above states that if we are stage IV we should insist on regular brain MRI's--how often is suggested or recommended?
There is not really an "official" timeline. Most of us who have them, do so during our regular scans. For me, and others, it is quarterly. When my onc orders CT body scans, he also now orders a brain MRI since I requested it rather than CT (more sensitive). My CT brain scan in March was clear. By June my MRI showed one 5mm tumor. One month later, there were 7 definites and many more possibles. Remember that if you're Her2+++, you have an aggressive cancer. I, like others on this site, had no symptoms. At least 1/3 of all Stage IV bc survivors will get brain mets. That number seems to be rising since we're living longer. Go figure! So do insist on brain MRIs regularly.

Lisa, does you oncologist order them or does he send you to a neurologist?
My onc orders all my tests, CTs and MRIs. No need for a neurologist at all.

Same here, I've had annual scans for a couple of years now, including brain MRI's and my onc just writes the order and I take it with me. Most of the scan's are done in the same clinic where I receive my infusions, so it's handy.

I finally ask for a brain MRI. I had it today and I was surprised that they used contrast. Do all you who have MRI have contrast? Patty H
Yes, contrast was given. At least it's not the yucky contrast we drink with CTs!
Let us know your results.

Lisa
