good scan and not so good scan

My MRI of the brain came back good, yeah! But my ct scan of my lungs shows a new met. I have been on a break from chemo for the summer so I have had a great summer and time to rebuild my strength to fight again. Friday I go on navelbine and herceptin. I have taken navelbine before and it didn't work. When I mentioned this to my Dr. he said he hoped it has been long enough ago that it will work this time. He is working on containment and quality of life so he wants to start me out on the chemo's with the least side effects. So I will once again begin my fight. Patty H

Dear Patti,
I'm very sorry to hear about the discovery of your new mets. When you had navelbine the first time (unsuccessfully), was it in combination with herceptine? If it wasn't, you should expect very good results as it is very active with herceptine. If you did have it before with herceptine and it didn't work; I have to wonder why your onc would want to try it again. If it doesn't work again, when are you going to find out?? When it has spread somewhere else? Sorry to play devil's advocate but there are so many options besides navelbine.....have you considered a second opinion? A lot of good minimal side effests are going to do if the chemo doesn't work (again).
