I would like to get some information about WBR. What to expect? Side effect? outcome? what to do to keep the cancer in the brain at bay if WBR works? I know you have very successful story but I never find it. Can you pls show me where I can find your story? Thanks! Another question, My onc told me I will only maintain herseptin while on WBR, my novelbin/herceptin worked fine(little history: 6/03 reccurence to lung 1.0cm right lobe and numeras others, 6 mon taxtere/herceptin, worked in 6mon,deminise small ones, 1.0cm to 0.9cm, numeras small ones gone, then failed in 2/04, found new mets on left side of lung 0.5cm. Swictch to novelbine/herceptin 3on,1 off to now. CT(9/8/04) showed everything clean, 0.5cm on left lobe not well seen on this exam. slight decrease size of right pleural effusion.no new nodules. No evedence of mets to the Abdomen/pelvis.)I just wondering if I go off chemo for now, what if the cancer start growing again in my body? Should I add femara or other hormone drugs into herceptin?(I am ER/PR +++,and I am 46year old) or keep novlbine/herceptin? any input would be appreciatted. My brain mets(MRI9/8/04) is extensive, diffuse. The lesions were up to 11mm in size without vasogenic edema. No hydrocephalus, nor is there siganificant mass effect. Very scary!!! Almost the whole brain has it! But I did not have very noticible symptoms. Many spelling mistake, pls ignore them! Many thanks!

Here is a link to my story, that was written
3 1/2 yrs ago. I first had Gamma-knife for 3 brain tumors, then 6 mos. later a follow-up brain MRI showed I ha 6 tiny mm. tumors in various locations. This led me to have WBR FOR 20 DAYS @ 200 RADS/DAY. Your Radiation Onc will probably recommend a similar plan. It does work better when the tumors are under 2cms. Depending on your overall health you should do very well. Alot depends on keeping yourself nourished, and hydrated. Resting is a must for a few months down the road. You should stay on Herceptin during your WBR. Also ask your Onc if you can stay on Femara, since it has very little side effects.
Jean, I would be happy to speak to you if you can e-mail me your #
Ater a few weeks, you will have another MRI to see the results.

Hugs & patience
