My radiation oncologist sent me this article on her2 folks not having any greater chance of local recurrance (LRR only) than non-her2's. The thing I actually found interesting in the article, even though it was a small sample, was that Her2/neu-positive tumors were associated with a greater rate of estrogen receptor-negative disease. I am ER- and only slightly PR+. Just wondering what everyone else is and if this is a consistent theme? Maybe the reason her2's might have a worse prognosis has to do with negative recptors?? Just thinking out loud.

I am no doctor, but I am guessing that they are saying hormone-positive breast cancer has a better prognosis, only because ladies can remain on hormonals for a long time (5-10 yrs), without compromising the quality of life.

You all know how hard chemo can take on our bodies; we can only stay on chemo for a certain period of time; and with chemo we cannot do much on limited energy / restricted immune system (like going to any heavily-populated places).

This means that hormonals could better control cancer much longer than chemo, in terms of extra years. This is why my onc wanted me to try another hormonal first before adding on any new chemo, after I recurred to supraclavicular nodes while on Femara.

I am about 40% ER+ and 20% PR+. Plus, I was neoadjuvant.

Her2+++, ER+/PR+ here. However my cancer acts like it is ER-/PR-, as I don't respond to hormmonals....

HER 2 +++, ER (strongly positive), PR (weakly positive) I don't have the exact percentages at hand...I would have to dig them out of my files.

Rose,

ER/PR negative.
My onc told me when I was deciding to have both breasts removed... the surgery was my decision but if it returns, it will more than likely return metastaticaly! How's that for not sugar coating? Anyway I'm 3 years, 3 months and holding from initial dx.

Rose.. thanks for the email on the lymphadema. I passed it onto my friend.

I was told the same thing...if it came back it would probably be mets! But when you think about how her2 works (at least what we know about it!) that makes sense.

I am Her2+++. ER/PR neg. and also IBC. I was told by my surgeon that it would be better if I was ER/PR positive. I am 3 1/2 years out and as far as we know with only skin mets. That is not bad considering I was told that I am at a rate of 100% recurrence at all time in or out of treatment!!!! I wasn't given much hope when I started on this journey and never thought I would still be here now. Never give up even if your docs do. Hugs, Sandy

I was supposedly er,pr+ 13 years ago, but I can't find confirmation in my records. All I have is a pending report. I was diagnosed with bone and mediastynal mets, HER2+++, er,pr- last February.
