I just finished four rounds of AC treatment and am about to start on taxol + herceptin as part of an adjuvant trial. I've been reading about taxol, and there seems to be a lot of literature questioning its effective. Susan Love writes that Europe does not approve it for the adjuvant setting. Even the company's own literature questions its effectiveness for ER positive breast cancer (which I am). Is there any research that says it's particularly helpful for her2? Am I alone in this concern? I worry about the potential neuropathy side effects.
Thanks,
Monica

Monica,
My sister is currently on Taxol and Herceptin. I would be interested to know what side effects you have heard about. My sister has so many side effects right now, it's difficult to determine if it's the Decadron, Morphin, Herceptin, Taxol or simply the cancer. The most severe side effects right now are blurred vision, memory and dizziness, which of course could be due to some persistent brain tumors or swelling. Could you let me know which articles you read. Thanks so much..good luck with your decision. Sorry I couldn't be of help. (There are so many knowledgable people on this side who could possible help.)

Celina,
Sorry to hear about your sister struggles with the side effects. Here are a couple of web sites you could look at:
http://www.onxol.com/sideeffects.html

This next one is from the manufacturer and is very dense. It discusses the results/side effects of taxol by type of cancer.

I am currently taking taxol, carboplatin and herceptin on a weekly schedule (3 weeks on/1 week Off) with tolerable side effects. I've had some stomache cramps, diarrhea, bone, and muscle aches, but nothing I cannot tolerate.
