Neursurgeon recommends craniotomy, scheduled for next Nov.03 Tulsa. Seems thorough etc. only thing is Tulsa doesn't get a lot of brain cases, does spine.
My sis n law says no! Her daughter had primary brain tumor as a baby & neurosurgeon, not primarily specializing craniotomies cut her optic nerve.
The tumor board in OKC unanamousley recomended craniotomy 1st choice; 2nd cyberknife only if other CA warrented the urgency 2nd onc says not since this has been growing so slow.
So, now I need a good neurosurgeon with craniotomy specialty. Willing to travel to Kansas City, St. Louis, OKC, Houston or elsewhere.
Trying not to stress out. Thanks for all your info in advance. Velva

Velva, I just want to say I have a friend who had a craniotomy performed for lung mets, 2 years ago, and is doing great. She also had WBR but I don't know if that was before or after the craniotomy. She is very active and lives a good life.

Love, Lolly

Unfortunately I have had bc and brain mets only three separate times. The first time craniotomy my Dr. said it was first line as your Dr. stated. My brain mets were all single lesions. Then I had another small met a year later so I had a craniotomy again. The last met was very tiny so we used stereo. This is in three years and now I am on herceptin and Femara. Regarding the surgery I was fine and recovered very well. I was not in any pain because there are no brain your head. Believe it or not it is not as scarey as it sounds. I was up and about in two days and then took it easy but that is with any surgery.
