Re: CHRISTINE ~ New Issue ~ Please Input

I lost 25 lbs during my recent recurrence and am having difficulty consuming enough extra calories to gain it back. You need to consume 7500 calories/wk over and above what it takes to maintain your current body weight to just gain 1 lb. I never thought I would have this problem in life. I used to be able to look at food and gain weight.

I read that Sally Fields had to gain 25 lbs to play the part of Mary Lincoln. She said she used ProGain. It took her 6 months to gain the weight and then 1 year after shooting the movie to take it all off. I researched the product and asked my T-DM1 trial onc if it is OK. He approved and I purchased it on the web. It is much higher in protein than Ensure and I think it tastes better. But it needs to be blended with ice which might be difficult in a nursing home environment.

Re: CHRISTINE ~ New Issue ~ Please Input

I've heard of people adding maple syrup to ensure to improve the taste and add colories. My thoughts are with you ladies trying to gain weight.

I have the opposite problem. I have cut way down on processed food, meat and poultry, bread and starches and increased my raw vegetable intack. I've very slowly lost 35 pounds since I changed my diet 6 months ago. I'm not sure that the weight loss is all due to my diet as I have lost a lot of muscle tone since I started on Aromasin and Affinitor in September.

Re: CHRISTINE ~ New Issue ~ Please Input

All above are great ideas. My spouse passed in 2003 with Alzheimer disease and I kept him at home with me. I needed to hire some help at times but could keep a close eye on what was going on with him.
I found finger foods - especially sweets went well wih him. He did lose weight at the very end as the disease finally restricts the ability to swallow food.
However I did have to cut the food and finally go to completely soft foods to get nutrition in. I used glucerna as a supplement as he had some elevated blood sugers.
And too, as I am a nurse and worked in hospitals and extended care facilities, I know about the short staffing and patients at times not eating because of staff lack of attention, with trays removed without being touched. Also sometimes the food is too cool when it is delivered and not warm enough to be tasty.
My best wishes to Christine.

Is Christine still losing weight?
A banana cashew milk shake - delicious.
Sounds like her spirit is still good.
I know she knows how much she means to all of us and how very much we love her.
hugs and love
