Scary - time blood clot anyone?
Hi her2 friends,
First, thanks for your input on Herceptin/Ixempra and Herceptin/Doxil; I did choose the Ixempra mainly because I was still a litle nervous of cardio risk form Herceptin/Doxil
Well, the next scary thing that happened was an ultrasound showed I have a BLOOD CLOT at the portal vein that feeds in the liver! What kind of symptoms might I expect? (Bleeding) I was just started on anti-clotting injections daily. I do not know any bc survivor with this condition. Has anyone had a blood clot like this? What kind of symptoms (if any) did it cause? How was it treated?

I didn't have a blood clot, although doctors thought I did and gave me a shot of blood thinner. Turned out the test was wrong. I had a nose bleed as a side effect.
A friend in my support group (a Her2 buddy) had two blood clots in her lungs. They gave her blood thinners. She's fine now.

Lida,
The heparin injections should help to dissolve the clot. It is always troublesome to have a clot anywhere in the body as it can travel and occlude a much needed vessel. I doubt you will experience many, if any symptoms related to the clot as it dissolves away.
I will pray your clot resolves painlessly and quickly, that you will not be overwhelmed with anxiety, but will have peace in this storm.

Hi friends,
I appreciate your advice and support regarding my scary blood clot in the left portal vein. Mjo, if you know, what med did your friend with the lung clots get -Heparin, Comadin, or something else? Laurel, I am taking Lovenox shots which are a form of Heparin which is an anti-coagulate - not a clot buster. I hope it helps my situation, prevents worsening, and that the clot dissolves on its own. It is still SCARY because if it becomes fully blocked, bleeding and enlargement of liver, spleen etc. can occur! But assistance of my her2 friends means so much to me. If you have any additional info and advice, please let me know. Lida

You are being very brave, Lida. I'm certain I'd be an absolute wreck. How will your docs determine if the clot has dissolved? By scanning? How long do they project you will have to be taking the Lovenox?

Laurel and her2 friends,
I am not sure how they will monitor the clot, but imaging will be done often. They expect I will be on Lovenox 4-6 months! Anyone have more info on this, please post. Lida
