Dr. Dennis Slamon at the Breast Cancer Symposium in Toronto - video to watch

I attended the Breast Cancer Symposium in Toronto at Princess Margaret Hospital a couple of weeks ago, and if anyone wants to see it, you can go to www.pmhf.ca, enter the site, under MULTIMEDIA click on WEBC Symposium, then click watch. The whole talk is over an hour long, but directly below the video there is a timer "slide" that you can click on and forward to about the 39 minute mark - You will see Dr. Tak Mak introducing Dr. Slamon, and then there he is!!

Enjoy.

all the best

Caya,
How wonderful that you were in attendance at Toronto.
A big THANK YOU for linking this wonderful information to all on the site.

Especially for the new members on our site to hear Dr. Salmon explain the Her2 ..."one size does not fit all"
this will help those women who are still being told by dr.
that they have favorable results since their tumor was small! This will bring some reality and sense to the enitre picture of HER2... Please note that due to dr. Slamon saying this back in 2006...I believe was very helpful in getting the FDA to approve herceptin for early breast cancer patients. (Amen)....

Also provides some insight to the next 5 yrs of treatment. Hopfully we will see treatment change and in those changes the treatment will be kinder (eg. chemo?)....For now we must work with what we have.
This may help new memebers adjust to the treatment decisions they are faced with. There is so much fear along with the dx. The impressive side even with Chemo, and this can not be overlooked is the 50% reduction in recurrence and 35% increase in survival.
(Amen again).

Not the case just a short few years ago.
Each day we are getting a little bit closer.
So my dear sisters even though we must deal with this nasty hateful disease...please see that the glass is half FULL....and we are gaining (ever so slow) but gaining
and I am praying for the full glass for all of us.

NEW MEMEBERS PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO VIEW THIS and learn HER2 is not instant doom anymore.

Kind Regards,
Jean

It was thrilling to hear Dr. Slamon (and the other doctors) speak at this event. I agree Jean that this lecture should especially be seen by newcomers to the Her2 board.

all the best

Dear Caya,

Thanks sooo much for this video and for the great amount of knowledge that it brings. Dr. Slamon is impressive and he means so much to us that just seeing him makes me have a kind of 'out of body experience' (LOL). Thanks so much for posting this link.

Thank you for the video link

That video gave me great information about the HER2 gene. I did my senior project on the HER2 gene and my mother was HER2+ so that video was very relevent to my life currently. I also have the book about Dr. Salmon and the discovery of the HER2 receptor and herceptin.
