Confused by Onc.

My onc wants me to start Xeloda again. I have no signs of the IBC rash, no symptoms, and my last scan was clear. Isn't it standard to drop the chemo and keep me on Tykerb? I will have a scan soon but even if that is clear; he wants me on chemo.

His reasoning is that I'm young and why change anything that is working? I have been off Xeloda since surgery a few months ago.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, Tonya

Re: Confused by Onc.

Hi Tonya
Is he taking a belt and braces approach? After finishinf taxotere my onc said he was considering whether I should have herc and xeloda long term also. he said it was a difficult call as the research was unclear and you had to consider quality of life.I understand the thought of going back on chemo especially when you are NED is so hard.

Re: Confused by Onc.

Was the xeloda tolerable to you? Surgery can release cells into the system, depress the immune system or trigger undesirable responses. Might not be a bad insurance policy. A middle ground might be metronomic (low dose, fewer breaks) Xeloda.
