cancer and acid???

Read this on a French/Anglo website and wondered what anyone thought about the comment:

"Cancer can ONLY exist in an acid environment. Thus if you keep your body alkali then you cannot get cancer. EVERY single cancer patient tests as acid. "

I have been taking Natural cellular defense to make my body less acidic. My saliva test just slightly more acidic than it should be.

You can buy test strips to test the PH of your body, I get mine at the health food store but Walgreens also carries them. Some websites have suggested monitoring your cancer that way. Cancer cells are very acidic so if you have a lot of cancer you will test acidic.

You cannot change the pH of your body. It is maintained in a very tight range by several different systems (respiratory, renal, and metabolic). The only time it varies is when you are very ill.

It may be possible to alter the pH of some of your bodily fluids (isn't that what cranberry juice does, for example) like saliva. But at the tissue level, it's a very tight range.

IMHO, anyone who tries to tell you differently is either honestly (but sadly) misinformed or trying to make money.

Dr Weil says this about alkaline water, but it's the same for an "alkaline diet":

Q Does Alkaline Water Promote Health?

A Answer (Published 9/4/2002)

Updated 5/13/2005Home water ionizers, which I've seen offered for sale on the internet, are just the latest twist in the ongoing effort to promote the notion that alkaline water is somehow protective of your health. The underlying idea is that you can prevent disease by balancing your body's pH. Promoters claim that alkaline water is energizing, hydrates the body more effectively than regular water, improves the taste of food when used in cooking, promotes "regularity," helps the body absorb nutrients more effectively, and on and on. I've even seen claims that it can cure everything from obesity and high blood pressure to breast cancer.

None of these claims are true. Furthermore, your body needs absolutely no help in adjusting its pH. Normally, the pH of blood and most body fluids is near seven, which is close to neutral. This is under very tight biological control because all of the chemical reactions that maintain life depend on it. Unless you have serious respiratory or kidney problems, body pH will remain in balance no matter what you eat or drink. As for water, you should consider the fact that alkaline water is common throughout the western states but to my knowledge it has not protected anyone from the diseases and disorders that occur elsewhere in the U.S.
The health claims for water ionizers and for alkaline water are bogus. Save your money.

Thanks, Debbie. I love Dr. Weil. I defer to his knowledge often!

I do tend to eat a more alkaline diet than acidic one, but not for any reason other than those are many of the foods I prefer anyway.

Thanks dlaxalogue, it sounded a bit iffy but.....acid does seem to cause problems. But if you can't change your PH, then that's that. I did feel that we might be like plants and earth and that certain elements might be beneficial and change the PH but I guess not.
thanks again
