CEA Levels for Early Stage NED

Just curious as to the CEA levels for those of you who are early stage non-metestatic NED.

The first CEA check I ever had was in September and it was 1.5. In December it was up to 1.6. (If there was a prior CEA done, I was unaware of it.) I'm not sure why he ran the test; my onc has a new lab now, so there were a number of new items on the last report.

My CA27-29 also went up; from 19.78 in August to 22.89 in November. When I asked my onc about the CEA he only replied, "It's in the normal range...normal can even be around 3.5 or higher." He never wants to elaborate on anything that is in the normal range.

I've noticed that most of you (non-metestatic) have a pretty low CEA...

The CEA is another type of tumor marker blood test. I did google it and it said, most often used for gasto cancers but also for, lung, liver and breast.

I don't think that I have had a CEA...? My CA 27 29 is usually under 5.

not commonly

Barbara,

It isn't commonly done for bc in general, and I don't know of anyone with early stage who have a CEA done. I think StephN found it useful after developing brain mets.
