Had my last T/C yesterday woo hoo!!

I am so excited to finally be finished with the chemo part of this journey. Yesterday was a long day my appointment was for 9:30am and we did not leave until 5pm. They had such a difficult time accesing my port. It was terrible finally i told them to stop I could not take another try. (I am usually a tough cookie but OMG) Then an angel nurse came in and was able to do it 123. Then she was able to flush it but was not get any blood return had to inject a med to break up the protien build up inside the port ( that had to sit in for an hour). But I did this with a smile knowing this will be the last week of feeling like crap from the chemo. I am looking so foward to my hair growing back and for my 2 little girls to not have to see mommy so sick.
I just wanted to let anyone just starting out in this journey. It does get better with time. I did not want to believe it myself but it does get better. You are stronger then you know and you will get through this. There were quite a few times during the chemo I was so depressed but Like a lovely lady on the boards told me "keep putting one foot in front of the other" It helped so much. I no that I still have a long road ahead Herceptin for the year and Radsfor6 weeks butit feels so good to put another check on the list.

Thank you to all on this board! you all make it so much easier to get through this even thoughI do not post that often I am always reading.

Re: Had my last T/C yesterday woo hoo!!

Wow you crossed the finish line on chemo!
Great...herceptin part is much much easier.
Rads can cause you to feel tired I would go in at night last treatment of the day...then come home and just go straight to bed and that worked great. I would just sleep through the night. I found that when I had rads in the daytime I was dragging through the day.

Sending you best wishes as you enter your new phase of treatment....please keep us posted.

I remember when you first posted.
Sending you hugs,
Jean

Re: Had my last T/C yesterday woo hoo!!

I couldn't be happier for you. I remember that day so clearly and almost did cartwheels leaving the treatment room. What a difference a year makes, it will be a year next month that I had my last chemo and today my hair is almost where it was when this whole journey started, my strength is back and I am feeling like my old self again. Herceptin will be so much easier. I did find that my hair is growing faster since I am off of the herceptin but it grew pretty good while I was on it. Good luck to you. It is all down hill from here. The worst is over over (hopefully forever). Keep us posted. Darlene

Re: Had my last T/C yesterday woo hoo!!

Yay! Congratulations!
I remember that feeling so well!
I hope, as Darlene said, that you are indeed finished FOREVER!!

My advice for radiation...lotion, lotion, lotion! Even when you don't think you need it. It catches up with you. Keeping the area moisturized is the best advice I received. I made it all the way to treatment #28 without discomfort. (in the spirit of full disclosure...the week after radiation ended...I had some serious discomfort and peeling) But, it was still waaaay easier than chemo!

Congratulations, again! Celebrate! You've earned it!
Denise
