I looked it up online as I also have not heard of it. I found that it is still in clinical trials stage 2. Not much to be found where I looked anyway. Sorry!

Symadex - quick research topics...

Hannah -

Might not be much help but here is a little web reseacrh.

http://www.xanthus.com/products_symadex.htm- drug company's link

http://www.pharmaceutical-business-review.com/article_news.asp?guid=%7B0180FB36-8421-4D03-8366-1F20BC0A4F7B%7D - Pharm Business Review - states this drug is also used for auto-immune disease - especially with MS. ( HavahJ are you reading this!) Currently in Phase II trials for Colorectal and B/C - preclinical for auto-immune. (http://www.xanthus.com/pdf/xanthus_factsheet.pdf).

http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/02-13-2006/0004280425&EDATE more about MS but read this: "The early results from this study showed that the animals in the study, which were paralyzed due to neurological impairment, were able to recover and regain their mobility after treatment with Symadex," commented Dr. Karlik. "Symadex is now in Phase 2 trials in oncology and the positive results of this animal model study show the candidate's potential for treating MS and provide the support needed to advance Symadex towards human trials for MS," said Michael A. Boss, PhD. Chief Business Officer at Xanthus.

http://202.127.145.151/Dig_Lib/ReadingRoom/ASMS/2005/sessions/pdfs/A052679.pdf - States that is does in fact cross the blood/brain barrier.

"C-1311 (Symadex) readily sequesters in tumor cell nuclei

resulting in G2M cell cycle disruption, has shown significant

activity in colorectal cancer models, and crosses the blood

brain barrier, suggesting potential for treatment of brain

tumors [4]. The drug is currently in phase I clinical trials."

Hope this helps...
