3 year scan results

Got my scan results back today, it's been 3 years and 1 month and I'm still NED. The false positive that I had on my ovary 6 months ago has resolved itself. I do have a few scattered lung nodules that I have have had from the beginning but they not changed and were not PET positive, the two spots on my liver haven't changed since diagnosis, they were not PET positive and are now pretty much confirmed hymangiomas. My Oncologist told me again that he now is seriously believing that my original lung mets diagnosis may have been a false positive also. The 2 lung mets that lit up were so small and had a very low SUV intake, they were too small to biopsy. So we just treated them as if they were there which has given me the benefit of lifetime herceptin. He told me that he really thinks that if I were metastatic, something would have reared its ugly head by now. I sure do hope and pray this is the case but I am almost afraid to get comfortable, which I never will be. So much of this cancer thing is just a wait and see, it is so hard not knowing what actually is and what is not and what is coming. Well, at least I get another 6 months to breathe easier...sherryg683

Thumbs up

Dear Sherry -
I am very happy for your continued NED status. Your onc may not have seen or be familiar with any other HIGH RESPONDERS to Herceptin. In some of us it works really well, and is all we need to keep the buggers slapped down and us in remission.

If there was some uptake in those small lung nodes, there was a reason. They looked different from the others even though they were small. And I take it they are gone??

It would be nice to believe that they were a false positive, but you have taken the safe route in not trusting this sneaky, sneaky disease.

My scans also show a couple of small nodules and cysts here and there. They come to most of us with age, but are not always harmful. Some of them go away eventually as I have had so many years of scans now to compare.

Hi Steph, that is exactly why I wouldn't even consider getting off herceptin any time in the future. Whatever I'm doing, is working and I wouldn't rock the boat for anything. I have had 3 false positives in the last year and a half with PET's. One to my ovary and 2 in my breast, so it does make me wonder about the original 2 lung nodules, I don't put as much stock in the PETs anymore, although it still scared the heck out of me when they lit up with my ovary, it was a very high intake. I like you have had nodules come and go and as long as they don't light up, I don't really worry... which is really contradicting myself. I don't want to believe the PETs when they do light up, but want to believe them when they don't...lol...I guess it would be pschologically easier to be a stage III, than a stage IV . But then I think, what will be will be and all I can do is keep doing what I'm doing. All I know is thank God for Herceptin and for all those doctors and researchers out there looking for a cure for us while we keep hangin on. Here's to being a high responder and may there be many, many more like us and many more years of responding...sherryg683

Congratulations, Sherry! You just keep on doing what you're doing. If you put your left sock on first, and then your left shoe, before starting on the right foot, you just keep doing it. Your doing great!

Great news Sherry! I'll echo the "keep doing what you're doing" sentiment.

I understand your point about wanting to believe the scans when they're good and when they show something else..;.well not so much.

I read about a great version of this mind game we play...all "good" reports are GREAT, FABULOUS, WONDERFUL NEWS. All "bad" ones are just "information".

Keep up the FABULOUS work!
