Microscopic Cells After Resection Of Subcutaneous Lesion

Hi Guys,

Nearly two months ago my wife had a subcutaneous lesion removed from her scalp. The lesion was excised with a 1cm margin. Pathology has come back and microscopic cells have been found in the margins. This is the only systemic disease my wife has had. She had had 20 brain mets treated by Gamma Knife and this is controlled. We opted against conventional radiotherapy to the lesion due to radiation passing through to the brain. My wife is currently on Kadcyla and Letrozole.

Has anyone had any experience of anything like this? Further surgery, radiotherapy and a treatment change are the options.

Thanks

Re: Microscopic Cells After Resection Of Subcutaneous Lesion

Freakzilla;

I really can't offer information on your wife situation as it is different from anything I have experienced. However, I have always questioned the idea of clear margins meaning no spread. When I was diagnosed in 2004 I had clear margin on my lumpectomy and no positive lymph nodes. I was told it was all good and no chemo needed. During the same examination my oncologist found a 1 cm tumour in my supraclavicular node. What do clear margins really mean? I must say that I was treated with AC taxol, herceptin and arimidex and was NED for 13+ years so it is treatable in any case.

Best wishes,
Cathy

Thanks Cathy,

I think we're going in for more surgery. Find out next Monday. Nothing really online to compare this too.

All the best for the future.
